Photo album

India, India. We left Kashmir on Tuesday for New Delhi (thankfully via air) where we have planned to spend 3 days before moving on to Dehra Dun, Mussoorie, Calcutta, Ranchi and then all over the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Here are some photos from Srinigar, Kashmir...

The sheep and goats(the size of horses) were painted in preparation to be slaughtered and sacrificed for the Islamic holiday which celebrates Abraham's ram that God provided for sacrifice in place of his son Isaac..

Delhi has been great. Yesterday we saw India Gate and then went to see Lotus Temple... The temple was open for people of all religions and cultures, many sat meditating in complete silence... Samuel and I just prayed in the Holy Spirit, asking God to show Himself through visions to the people who were genuinely seeking Him. Can you imagine meditating in the name of an idol and then suddenly you see Jesus standing before you?! This happened to one of our former-muslim friends.... He just kept having dreams of himself fishing and pulling up men.... Then one day he really met Jesus and now he is a pastor!!! It's so exciting to do God's business.. I'm always being blown away.

New friends at the temple...

After the temple I stumbled upon a small boy painting the most extravagant henna on a woman's hands. I was amazed and understandably sat down for my own turn. Now my left hand is decorated in gorgeous Indian fashion (will last for 3 weeks). I also got a desperately needed haircut. Feel like a new woman! In the evening we walked (or actually we pushed/shoved/squeezed/stumbled) through an insanely busy market of clothing, spices, shoes, nuts, candles.. Everything! We were sweaty and screaming to eachother over the chaos of constant car-horn-blowing (it's sincerely non-stop) and finally my sandle broke when I tripped over a hole in the road, so we made our way 'home'. Exhausted, but with really full hearts.

Today was spent shopping for new sandals and exploring the diverse sides of India. On one side of the street you have a shopping mall, on the other side a slum and just around the corner a mosque and temple.... Everywhere inbetween you find cripples crawling through traffic, entire families squeezed onto a motorbike, Boys playing cricket, old men sipping masala chai and the most stunning women I've ever seen! Every woman looks like a queen here with all their glittery sarees, gold nose rings and earrings and bangels and forehead jewels. One woman was walking down the street with a sheet of wood on her head and she was wrapped up in a bright red saree... So elegant. Only in India!

Tomorrow night we will sleep on a train and go North again to the cold mountains :) God is truly good.
